MAD works in forward-looking environmentsdeveloping futuristic architecture based on acontemporary interpretation of the eastern spiritof nature. All of MAD's projects - from residentialcomplexes or offices to cultural centres - desireto protect a sense of community and orientationtoward nature, offering people the freedom todevelop their own experience. Founded in 2004by Ma Yansong, the office first earned worldwideattention in 2006 by winning an internationalcompetition to design a residential tower nearToronto, expected to be completed in the summerof 2012. MAD has been commissioned by clientsof all backgrounds, leading to an intriguingcombination of diverse project designs. MAD'songoing projects include two major cultural projects in Harbin: the China Wood SculptureMuseum and Harbin Culture Island, an operahouse and cultural center that will retain theoriginal wetlands as an urban park between theold and new city.MAD is led by Ma Yansong, Dang Qun andYosuke Hayano.
